European champions file harassment complaint against Barcelona

Barcelona have been inform by FIFA and the RFEF on the complaint filed against them by 2018 Europa League winner Atlético Madrid over harassment of striker Julian Alvarez.

Atletico Madrid have filed a formal harassment complaint against Barcelona with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), accusing the Catalan club of repeatedly pursuing Julian Alvarez despite the striker remaining under contract until 2030.

According to a report by The Athletic, Atletico Madrid believe Barcelona’s conduct breached ethical standards governing relations between clubs.

The complaint follows months of speculation linking Alvarez with a move to Barcelona after the Argentina international expressed his desire to leave Atletico during the FIFA World Cup.

Barcelona were reported to be preparing an offer worth around €100 million, while Atletico consistently maintained the forward was not available for transfer.

The Catalan club is expected to appeal the complaint.

The dispute adds another chapter to the tense relationship between the two La Liga rivals during this transfer window.

The RFEF has acknowledged Atletico’s complaint and will review the matter under its disciplinary procedures, while neither club has indicated any change to its position over Alvarez’s future.
