Emerse Faes leaves Elephants role amid failure to reach agreement on extension

Emerse Fae has departed as Ivory Coast head coach after his contract expired, ending a successful tenure that included an AFCON triumph and World Cup qualification.

Emerse Fae has officially left his role as Ivory Coast head coach after the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) confirmed that his contract expired on July 31 and would not be renewed.

The decision brings an end to a memorable spell in charge of the Elephants, with the federation stating that a new coach will be appointed in due course.

Fae took over on an interim basis during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations after Jean-Louis Gasset was dismissed in the group stage.

He inspired a remarkable turnaround, guiding Ivory Coast to their third AFCON title with a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in the final before earning the job on a permanent basis.

The former midfielder also led Ivory Coast to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Elephants reached the knockout stage before exiting against Norway in the last 32.

The FIF thanked Fae for his achievements, describing his leadership and results as an important chapter in the country’s recent football history.
