Man United to abandon Lewis Hall and pursue best left-back in Europe
Manchester United have identified a potential alternative left-back option to first choice target Lewis Hall in Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde.
Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde if they fail to secure Newcastle United defender Lewis Hall this summer.
Hall remains the club’s preferred target, but negotiations could prove difficult should Newcastle refuse to lower their valuation of the England international.
According to TEAMtalk, United have continued to monitor Balde’s situation at Barcelona, where his long-term future could depend on the club’s transfer activity.
The Spanish champions are reportedly pursuing Racing Santander youngster Jorge Salinas, a move that could reshape competition at left-back.
Balde, 22, once regarded as one of the best left-back in Europe, remains a key member of Barcelona’s squad and featured regularly last season, contributing three assists across all competitions.
The Spain international, a product of La Masia, is highly regarded for his pace, attacking quality and ability to operate across the left flank, and may be tempted by the prospect of a move aboard.
Manchester United are expected to prioritise Hall because of his Premier League experience and long-term potential as Luke Shaw’s successor. However, Balde is viewed as a strong alternative should a deal for the Newcastle defender fail to materialise before the transfer window closes.
