Chelsea faces €60m stumbling block in pursuit of Diogo Costa
FC Porto remains determined to keep goalkeeper Diogo Costa this summer unless Chelsea or other suitors trigger his hefty €60 million release clause.
FC Porto is dug in on retaining star goalkeeper Diogo Costa despite intensifying transfer speculation linking him with a summer move to the Premier League.
Chelsea is reportedly leading the chase for the Portuguese international following his impressive performances at the 2026 World Cup. However, the Portuguese club is under no pressure to sell its prize asset without a massive compromise.
Costa is tied to a long-term contract with the Dragons running until June 2030. Porto retains absolute control over the 26-year-old’s future due to a stringent €60 million release clause embedded in his contract.
Unless Chelsea triggers this buyout clause in full, the Porto hierarchy remains calm and completely unwilling to negotiate a lower fee for their starting goalkeeper.
