Cuti Romero and Atletico Madrid Closing In as New Bid Set to Follow
Cristian Romero’s move to Atletico Madrid is closing in, with a new bid expected soon and talks in their final stages.
Fernando Czyz reports Romero has chosen Atletico over Barcelona and Inter, with the aim of having him in Madrid by midweek.
Sky Sports’ Luca Bendoni says the clubs are closing in on a fee, while Fabrizio Romano notes Atletico’s first bid was rejected but an improved one is coming.
Tottenham flatly rejected an Arsenal approach for Romero after William Saliba’s injury, refusing to sell to a rival, while Barcelona’s interest hasn’t produced an actual bid, consistent with their focus staying on Rodri.
Inter’s rival deal (€40m) collapsed after they failed to sell Benjamin Pavard to fund it.
Romero has made 156 Tottenham appearances since 2021, captaining the club to Europa League glory and earning Player of the Match in the final.
Spurs are reportedly willing to sell for around £35m. With his preference clear and talks in their final stages, this looks close to completion.
