Thomas Partey closes in on Al Shabab move after arriving in Saudi Arabia
Thomas Partey is on the verge of joining Al Shabab after arriving in Riyadh to complete the final stages of his move.
Thomas Partey has moved closer to a new chapter in his career after arriving in Riyadh ahead of a proposed switch to Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab.
The Ghana international is expected to complete his medical before signing a one-year contract with the club as a free agent. Partey became available after Villarreal opted against extending his deal following his first season in Spain, during which he made 25 appearances across competitions.
The midfielder previously spent five seasons at Arsenal, making 130 appearances after joining from Atletico Madrid in 2020. His potential move to Saudi Arabia comes after he represented Ghana at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, featuring three times as the Black Stars reached the Round of 32.
At Al Shabab, Partey would bring considerable experience from his years in La Liga and the Premier League as he prepares for another stage of his club career.
The transfer could also prove significant for Ghana, with the Black Stars preparing for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. Partey remains an experienced figure within the national team setup, and regular football in Saudi Arabia could help maintain his match fitness ahead of the qualifiers.
Reports from Saudi Arabia indicate that the medical represents the final major step before the agreement is completed, with the midfielder expected to put pen to paper once he receives clearance.
