Aston Villa secure €30M Zion Suzuki deal ahead of Emiliano Martinez departure
Aston Villa have agreed a €30 million deal with Parma for Japan goalkeeper Zion Suzuki as Emiliano Martinez moves closer to a possible Juventus transfer.
Aston Villa have reached an agreement to sign Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma for an initial €30 million, with the transfer potentially rising to €35m through bonuses, as the club prepares for Emiliano Martinez’s possible departure.
According to The Athletic, Suzuki has agreed a five-year contract with Villa until 2031 after making it clear that he wanted to move to the Premier League side.
The 23-year-old has emerged as one of Serie A’s promising goalkeepers since joining Parma in 2024 and has established himself as the club’s first choice, making 57 league appearances across the past two seasons.
Suzuki also started all four of Japan’s matches at the 2026 World Cup in North America. His arrival would provide Villa with a replacement should Martinez complete his long-anticipated move to Juventus.
The Italian giants have submitted a fresh proposal for the Argentina international, reportedly worth €7m initially plus €3m in potential add-ons, with negotiations now believed to be progressing after the gap between the clubs’ valuations narrowed.
Villa have been monitoring Suzuki for around two years and identified him as their preferred option should Martinez leave.
The goalkeeper’s move to England would represent another major step in his rapidly developing career, while Villa’s decision to act before Martinez’s future is settled underlines their desire to avoid being left without an established replacement during the transfer window.
