Liam Delap completes £50M club record move to Nottingham Forest
Liam Delap has left Chelsea after one difficult season to join Nottingham Forest in a club-record deal worth up to £50 million.
Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Liam Delap from Chelsea in a club-record transfer that could reach £50 million, giving manager Oliver Glasner a major attacking addition ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
The deal includes an initial £45m fee, with a further £5m available through performance-related bonuses.
Delap, 23, spent only one season at Stamford Bridge after joining Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30m, but struggled to establish himself, scoring just once in 28 Premier League appearances.
Forest see the England youth international as a player capable of developing into a reliable goalscorer and have handed him a five-year contract.
The move also represents a significant financial return for Chelsea after Delap’s difficult first season in west London. Forest had identified a new striker as a priority during the transfer window, particularly after a turbulent previous campaign that saw them finish 16th in the Premier League.
Glasner is now hoping Delap can provide greater attacking consistency as Forest seek to move up the table.
The striker previously impressed during his time at Ipswich, scoring 12 Premier League goals despite the club’s relegation, form that helped convince Chelsea to invest in him last summer.
His Forest move gives him another opportunity to rediscover that scoring touch and establish himself as a leading Premier League forward.
