Chelsea injury blow: 10 players set to miss Hull City clash
Chelsea will be without Moises Caicedo and three other first-team players when they host unbeaten Hull City at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea will be without Moises Caicedo, Marco Palestra, Jordan Henderson and Emmanuel Emegha for Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Hull City, with Xabi Alonso confirming that none of the four injured players is ready to return.
Caicedo remains the biggest concern after suffering a recurrence of a calf problem shortly after returning as a substitute against Brighton earlier this season, with Alonso unwilling to risk the midfielder again before he is fully recovered.
The Ecuador international has therefore been pencilled in for a possible return against Brentford after the international break.
Players expected to miss Chelsea vs Hull City
- Moises Caicedo — Chelsea
- Marco Palestra — Chelsea
- Jordan Henderson — Chelsea
- Emmanuel Emegha — Chelsea
- Hidemasa Morita — Hull City
- Charlie Hughes — Hull City
- Eliot Matazo — Hull City
- Darko Gyabi — Hull City
- Jack Butland — Hull City
- Ilyas Ansah — Hull City
Palestra is also still waiting to make his competitive Chelsea debut after picking up an injury in training, while Henderson and Emegha continue their respective recoveries after arriving at Stamford Bridge during the summer.
Alonso’s update leaves Chelsea with four notable absences, although there was some encouragement with Romeo Lavia available for selection against Hull.
The Blues will need to manage the midfield situation carefully against a Hull side that has made an impressive unbeaten start to life back in the Premier League.
Chelsea have scored eight goals in their opening three league matches but have also conceded seven, making defensive and midfield balance a major issue for Alonso.
The hosts will therefore hope their attacking quality can compensate for the missing players as they attempt to respond to last weekend’s 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.
