15 players who could miss Man United vs Brighton as Carrick gives injury update
Michael Carrick faces a selection headache as Manchester United prepare for Brighton with several first-team players unavailable and Luke Shaw still a doubt.
Manchester United head into Wednesday’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton at Old Trafford with Michael Carrick facing a number of selection problems after a difficult opening to the season.
The biggest doubt is Luke Shaw, who has missed the club’s last two matches with a fitness issue, although Carrick says the defender could be only days away from a return.
United will definitely be without Carlos Baleba, Amad Diallo, Matthijs de Ligt, Manuel Ugarte and Tom Heaton, leaving Carrick with limited options as he looks to rotate his squad following Sunday’s Manchester derby defeat.
Baleba, the £70 million summer arrival from Brighton, is edging closer to training with the group but is not expected to face his former club, while Amad and De Ligt remain on their respective recovery programmes.
Brighton also have concerns, although Georginio Rutter is available and Femi Azeez is being assessed. Kaoru Mitoma, Mats Wieffer and Jack Hinshelwood remain sidelined, while other absences further limit Fabian Hurzeler’s options.
The Seagulls arrive with confidence after a 5-0 win over Coventry, while United are looking for a response and a place in the fourth round.
