Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri set for Borussia Dortmund loan move
Ethan Nwaneri is closing in on a season-long move to Borussia Dortmund as Arsenal look to give the highly rated youngster the regular senior football he needs.
Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri is set to join Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the season after the German club reached an agreement for the highly rated midfielder.
The 19-year-old has found opportunities difficult to come by at Arsenal this campaign, with competition for attacking positions limiting his involvement despite his reputation as one of the club’s most promising academy graduates.
Nwaneri previously spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille, making 11 appearances and contributing two goals, but another temporary move now appears to be on the cards as Arsenal seek a better pathway for his development.
The England youth international broke into Arsenal’s senior setup at just 15, becoming the youngest player to appear in a Premier League match, and has since accumulated 51 competitive appearances and 10 goals for the Gunners.
Dortmund’s interest intensified following the serious knee injury suffered by Giannis Konstantelias, who is expected to spend a significant period on the sidelines.
Nwaneri’s versatility and experience at senior level make him an attractive option for the Bundesliga club, particularly with Dortmund seeking reinforcements before the transfer window closes.
Arsenal have previously indicated that regular football would be beneficial for Nwaneri, with manager Mikel Arteta acknowledging the importance of considering what is best for the youngster’s long-term development.
A move to Dortmund would therefore offer Nwaneri an opportunity to play in a competitive European environment while remaining under Arsenal’s control.
