Chelsea are leading the race to sign Jordan Henderson on a free transfer, with Fabrizio Romano reporting Brentford will let him go amicably after just one year at the club.

The 36-year-old is open to the move, and while other Premier League sides are watching, Chelsea are out in front.
Henderson’s recent path has taken him from Liverpool to Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ettifaq, then Ajax, then back to the Premier League with Brentford, where he still has a year left on his contract.

He made 492 appearances and won every major trophy during his 12 years at Liverpool, and featured for England at this summer’s World Cup, despite a broken arm suffered mid-tournament.

This looks like a move for leadership and experience rather than a starting role as Chelsea already have strong midfield options, and reports frame the club’s approach this summer as adding proven heads rather than marquee names. For now, though, Chelsea remain the frontrunners to land him.
