Harry Kane points the blame for England collapse
Harry Kane says England failed to build on their lead against Argentina, admitting the Three Lions sat back after going ahead and paid the price in a 2-1 World Cup semi-final defeat.
England led through Anthony Gordon after the break but retreated instead of pushing for a second goal, allowing Argentina to hit back through Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez’s late winner.
Kane called it “gutting” after such a promising run, insisting Thomas Tuchel’s message had been to keep attacking, but the team couldn’t recapture momentum once Argentina struck twice.
England now face France, beaten 2-0 by Spain, who booked their place in Sunday’s final (FIFA) , in Saturday’s third-place play-off in Miami.
