Jose Mourinho raises major Bernardo Silva concern after Real Madrid debut
Real Madrid boss José Mourinho has warned Bernardo Silva that he must improve his physical condition after the midfielder made his Real Madrid debut against Ferencvaros.
José Mourinho has expressed concern over Bernardo Silva’s fitness after the Portugal midfielder made his debut in a 2-1 pre-season victory over Ferencvaros.
The coach said Silva returned from his post-World Cup break below the physical standards expected at the Spanish club.
Mourinho acknowledged Silva’s importance to his plans but believes the 31-year-old needs to improve before the competitive season begins.
The Portuguese manager also explained that he moved Silva into the No.10 role after noticing that he lacked some physical strength during his cameo.
The concern comes despite Silva showing encouraging signs during his first appearance. He completed a 45-minute stint and impressed with his composure, passing and movement, while Real Madrid secured victory through goals from Mario Rivas and Carlos Espí.
Silva has also admitted that his first week of training in Madrid has been demanding as he adapts to new teammates and Mourinho’s methods.
With pre-season continuing, the midfielder will now be expected to raise his fitness levels and reach the condition required to play a significant role.
