Julian Alvarez transfer saga takes fresh turn after reported Atletico secret meeting

Claims about a private meeting between Julian Alvarez and Atletico Madrid chief Miguel Angel Gil Marin have added fresh intrigue to the striker’s unresolved future, with Arsenal still monitoring the situation.

Julian Alvarez’s uncertain future at Atletico Madrid has taken another twist after claims emerged about a private meeting that could have included an understanding over the Argentina striker’s eventual departure.

Spanish television pundit Jota Jordi alleged that Alvarez and Atletico chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin met at a restaurant where a “promise” was made regarding the forward’s future, although another pundit offered a different account, saying several meetings involving the player, his representatives and club officials took place.

The competing versions have added another layer to a transfer saga that has become increasingly complicated as the deadline approaches. Alvarez publicly expressed his desire to leave Atletico earlier this summer, with Barcelona understood to be his preferred destination.

However, Atletico have remained firmly opposed to selling their star forward to the Catalan club and have instead shown greater willingness to consider an offer from Arsenal.

Recent reports indicate that the Spanish club could accept a fee in the region of £128 million from the Premier League side, although Alvarez’s own preference remains a major obstacle.
