Lionel Messi is reportedly closing in on a takeover of Eldense that would deepen his involvement in Spanish football beyond his playing career.
Lionel Messi is on the verge of adding another Spanish football club to his growing portfolio after reportedly reaching an agreement to take control of Eldense.
The Argentine superstar is understood to have reached a deal in principle with the club’s current owners for the purchase of its shares, with the transaction expected to be completed once the remaining legal requirements are satisfied.
Eldense currently compete in Spain’s second tier and have endured a difficult start to the campaign, sitting near the bottom of the table without a victory.
The proposed takeover would represent a significant step in Messi’s growing involvement in football administration and investment.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner already became the owner of Catalan side Cornellà earlier this year, giving him experience outside the playing side of the sport.
Any Eldense acquisition must still pass through due diligence and receive approval from Spain’s National Sports Council before becoming official.
If completed, the move would make Messi the owner of a professional Spanish club while he continues his playing career with Inter Miami.
