Manchester United close in on Carlos Baleba after £65m offer
Manchester United are advancing negotiations for Carlos Baleba after submitting a £65 million package as they seek another major midfield addition.
Manchester United are edging closer to completing a deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba after making a renewed push for the Cameroon international.
The proposed package is worth around £60 million upfront, with another £5 million tied to performance-related add-ons, although Brighton are yet to accept the offer.
United’s interest in Baleba dates back to last summer, when the midfielder’s valuation was significantly higher, but his inconsistent 2025-26 campaign has altered the situation and made a transfer more achievable.
The 22-year-old remains highly regarded at Old Trafford because of his physical strength, ability to recover possession and capacity to cover large areas of the pitch.
His versatility could also provide an additional option at left-back if required. Baleba is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury sustained during pre-season, but the problem is not expected to keep him out for an extended period.
Should the transfer be completed, he would become United’s third midfield arrival of the summer after Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, further reshaping Michael Carrick’s options ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
United are now working to bridge the remaining gap with Brighton and get the deal over the line.
