Newcastle Make Hojbjerg Priority Target Amid Midfield Overhaul
Newcastle are pushing hard for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as their priority midfield target, with talks already underway on multiple fronts.
Santi Aouna reports discussions between Newcastle and Marseille have started, while TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey says the club have outlined their plans directly to the player, who’s given the green light to return to the Premier League.
The urgency comes from a midfield in crisis: Sandro Tonali has moved to Tottenham and Bruno Guimaraes has joined Arsenal for £75m, leaving manager Matthias Jaissle short on senior options.
Hojbjerg’s agent hasn’t ruled out the move, and Marseille under financial pressure could be open to a lower-than-expected fee.
Hojbjerg brings proven Premier League pedigree from his Southampton and Tottenham days (254 appearances), known for tackling, tactical intelligence, and durability.
With both player and club aligned, the deal looks advanced and the main thing left is agreeing a fee with Marseille.
