NPFL ends Propel Sports Africa partnership, eyes new broadcast deal
The Nigeria Premier Football League has ended its broadcasting partnership with Propel Sports Africa and will seek a new arrangement aimed at improving coverage, production standards and commercial returns for clubs.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has terminated its broadcasting agreement with Propel Sports Africa ahead of the 2026/27 season, marking a significant change in the league’s media strategy.
NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye said the decision was made in the best interests of the league and its stakeholders.
The partnership with Propel was central to the NPFL’s efforts to expand live coverage through digital streaming. The company introduced AI-powered cameras and helped establish the NPFL Live platform, while also working with MTN to make matches available to subscribers on mobile devices.
Propel’s tenure also produced notable milestones in coverage. On the final matchday of the 2023/24 campaign, the company streamed nine of the league’s 10 fixtures, described by the NPFL as a record for live coverage in the competition. Its model was designed to make multiple matches economically viable through lower-cost production technology.
The termination now leaves the league facing the task of securing a replacement before the new campaign begins.
The NPFL said its next broadcast arrangement will prioritise wider visibility, better production quality and increased revenue opportunities for clubs and other stakeholders.
The development comes as the league continues to pursue a broader commercial and broadcasting transformation.
In 2025, the NPFL announced a separate partnership with Inview Technology aimed at creating centralised content management, live coverage and a dedicated AfroSoccer channel, highlighting the league’s growing push towards wider television and digital distribution.
