Pierluigi Collina explains why Egypt goal was ruled out vs. Argentina
FIFA refereeing chief Pierluigi Collina defended the decision to disallow Egypt’s goal against Argentina, clarifying that VAR is required to penalize build-up fouls regardless of their distance or time from the actual goal.
FIFA Chief Refereeing Officer Pierluigi Collina has strongly defended the controversial decision to disallow Egypt’s breakaway goal against Argentina following a lengthy VAR review.
In an official statement addressing the World Cup Round of 16 fallout, Collina clarified that the Video Assistant Referee must check the entire attacking possession phase.
He emphasized that no limits exist regarding time or distance from the goal when reviewing build-up infractions.
Collina confirmed Egypt’s Marwan Attia stepped on Lisandro Martínez’s foot, validating the referee’s intervention for a missed field violation.
He concluded that while personal judgment remains an inherent factor, the foundational refereeing principles were applied successfully throughout the tournament.

So why is same energy no applied when they (Egypt) were fouled ?
It’s just bunch on hypocrites seated there in 🙂↔️
