Esther Okoronkwo alleges theft at Super Falcons’ Morocco hotel ahead of WAFCON
Super Falcons forward Esther Okoronkwo has accused hotel staff in Casablanca of stealing cash from players’ rooms, with the allegations emerging just days before Nigeria’s opening match at the 2026 WAFCON.
Esther Okoronkwo has alleged that several Super Falcons players lost cash while staying at a hotel in Casablanca ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The forward claimed the money disappeared while the squad was away from their rooms and accused housekeeping staff of carrying out the theft. She shared the allegations through a series of posts on Snapchat.
Okoronkwo later clarified that she lost $700, having initially reported $500. She also claimed teammates, including Halimatu Ayinde, Asisat Oshoala and Joy Omewa, had money stolen from their belongings.
According to the striker, players confronted hotel officials but were left dissatisfied with the response, alleging staff failed to provide clear explanations.
The incident comes as Nigeria finalised preparations for its WAFCON title defence after completing its training camp in Casablanca before moving to Rabat for the group stage.
Reports indicate the matter has been reported to the relevant Moroccan authorities and is under investigation, although neither the Nigeria Football Federation nor the hotel had issued an official statement at the time of reporting.
