Arsenal’s young midfielder and former club Academy captain Louie Copley has confirmed that he ruptured his ACL during the first-team’s pre-season defeat to Real Betis, dealing a major setback to his development.

Arsenal midfielder Louie Copley has confirmed he suffered a ruptured ACL during the club’s pre-season friendly against Real Betis. The 19-year-old came on at half-time but lasted only around 10 minutes before being replaced by Theo Julienne after suffering the knee injury.

Copley, who was deployed at right-back despite normally playing in midfield, described the setback as difficult to accept after making his pre-season debut for the club he supported growing up. He said he remains determined to return stronger.

The academy prospect had impressed in Arsenal’s previous friendly against Girona, operating at right-back and contributing positively in attack. His latest injury is now expected to disrupt plans for another loan move.

Copley spent the second half of last season on loan at Crawley Town, making nine League Two appearances and registering one assist.

The youngster had also trained with Arsenal’s first team after returning from Crawley and was previously an unused substitute against Club Brugge in the Champions League. He regularly captained the Under-21s before his latest setback.
