Cameroon reach WAFCON final after dramatic shout-out win over Morocco
Michaely Bihina produced a remarkable goalkeeping display as Cameroon defeated hosts Morocco on penalties to reach the WAFCON final.
Cameroon goalkeeper Michaely Bihina was the standout performer as the Indomitable Lionesses defeated hosts Morocco on penalties to reach the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations final.
The semi-final ended goalless after extra time before Cameroon secured a 3-1 shootout victory.
Morocco had a golden opportunity to settle the contest in the 118th minute after VAR awarded a penalty. However, Bihina denied Fatima Tagnaout from 12 yards, preserving Cameroon’s hopes of reaching the final.
The 22-year-old goalkeeper continued her heroics during the shootout, saving efforts from Kenza Chapelle, Maryame Atiq and Sakina Ouzraoui. Her saves left the home crowd stunned and put Cameroon firmly in control.
Teenage defender Maryam Nyadjou then converted the decisive penalty to complete Cameroon’s victory. The result sends the Central Africans into their first WAFCON final since 2016, when they lost to Nigeria.
Cameroon will face Malawi in Sunday’s final after the debutants defeated Algeria 3-1. The Indomitable Lionesses will now pursue their first continental title, having previously lost three WAFCON finals. Morocco, meanwhile, suffered another painful exit after reaching the previous two finals.
