Chelsea confirm £40m signing of midfielder Honest Ahanor from Atalanta
Chelsea have secured an agreement for Atalanta defender Honest Ahanor, with the highly rated teenager set to spend the season at Crystal Palace before moving to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have completed an agreement to sign 18-year-old defender Honest Ahanor from Atalanta in a deal worth around £40 million, securing one of European football’s promising young defensive talents.
The Italy youth international will not immediately join Chelsea’s first-team squad, instead spending the 2026/27 campaign at Crystal Palace to gain regular Premier League experience.
The unusual structure means Ahanor will formally move to Palace from Atalanta before his Chelsea transfer becomes effective next summer, a solution linked to Premier League loan regulations.
Ahanor enjoyed a breakthrough campaign after becoming the first player born in 2008 to feature in Serie A and also gained Champions League experience with Atalanta.
His versatility, with the ability to operate at centre-back and left-back, makes him an attractive long-term addition to Chelsea’s defence.
