Eddie Howe has left Newcastle United after five years, ending a tenure that delivered a historic Carabao Cup triumph and two Champions League qualifications despite a disappointing final season.

Newcastle United have parted company with manager Eddie Howe after five years at St James’ Park, bringing an end to a spell that transformed the club’s fortunes.

Appointed in November 2021, the 48-year-old guided Newcastle away from relegation danger before winning the 2025 Carabao Cup, ending the club’s 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy, while also securing Champions League qualification on two occasions.

Howe’s departure follows a disappointing 12th-place Premier League finish last season and a summer marked by the exits of Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon, with uncertainty also surrounding captain Bruno Guimarães.

His final match in charge ended in a 4-1 pre-season defeat to Bristol City, while reports indicate Matthias Jaissle is the leading candidate to succeed him.
