First managerial sack confirmed three weeks into the season
After three consecutive defeats left the heavily rebuilt side bottom of the Serie A table, Fiorentina have dismissed Fabio Grosso, who becomes the first manager to be sacked in top European leagues this season.
Fiorentina have parted company with Fabio Grosso after just three Serie A matches, bringing a remarkably short managerial spell to an abrupt end following a disastrous start to the campaign.
The former Italy international was appointed in June but failed to turn a heavily revamped squad into a competitive side, with Fiorentina losing all three league fixtures and falling to the bottom of the standings.
Their problems began with a 4-0 defeat away to Roma before a 3-0 home loss against newly promoted Frosinone, while Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Torino proved the final blow.
The results left the Viola with only one goal scored and nine conceded, despite significant investment during the summer transfer window.
Grosso’s dismissal makes him the first Serie A managerial casualty of the 2026-27 campaign.
Fiorentina must now move quickly to appoint a successor, with Paolo Vanoli among the names reportedly being considered, ahead of Friday’s trip to Venezia
