Jean-Philippe Mateta has escalated his dispute with Crystal Palace by challenging the validity of the final year of his contract with FIFA, throwing fresh uncertainty over his future at Selhurst Park.
The 29-year-old striker believes the optional 12-month extension activated by Palace should not be binding, despite the club maintaining that his agreement runs until June 2027.
Mateta’s case was reportedly considered by an independent Premier League tribunal, which found the contract remained valid, before FIFA subsequently declined to intervene.
The France international has been a key figure during Palace’s most successful period, helping them win the FA Cup and Conference League.
His future has already attracted interest from several clubs, while Palace previously offered him a new long-term contract.
