Man United turn to Club Brugge star as Luke Shaw successor plan takes shape
Manchester United are continuing to track Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys as Michael Carrick’s side considers a younger long-term solution at left-back.
Manchester United are continuing to monitor Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys as the club considers its long-term plans for the position currently occupied by Luke Shaw.
The 21-year-old Belgian has emerged as a prominent name on United’s recruitment list after the club failed to land other defensive targets during the summer window, and recent scouting trips have only strengthened the interest.
Seys caught the eye during Club Brugge’s 3-0 victory over Genk, producing two assists while helping his side keep a clean sheet, underlining the attacking contribution that has made him attractive to United’s recruitment department.
His development has been particularly impressive since breaking into Club Brugge’s senior side, with the defender now tied to the Belgian club until 2029 after signing a contract extension.

United had previously explored moves for Nathaniel Brown and Lewis Hall, but Brown joined Bayern Munich while Hall remained at Newcastle after signing a new deal.
Hall’s reported £75 million valuation also made a move difficult, leaving United to examine alternatives such as Seys. Shaw’s situation has added urgency to the search.
The England international remains under contract until June 2027, but availability has continued to be a concern, with United having limited senior options in his position.
Carrick has previously acknowledged the need to manage Shaw’s workload, while the defender has already missed matches this season.
Seys could therefore initially provide competition before potentially becoming a long-term option, although United have yet to make a formal offer and Club Brugge have little immediate reason to sell a player contracted until 2029.
