Xabi Alonso has confirmed Mykhailo Mudryk will join Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Hong Kong, pledging the club’s full support as the winger works towards his return.
Chelsea head coach Xabi Alonso has confirmed Mykhailo Mudryk will travel with the squad for the club’s pre-season tour of Hong Kong, backing the winger after a difficult period away from competitive football.
The Spaniard said everyone at the club is supporting the Ukrainian as he prepares to reintegrate with the first team.
Alonso admitted Mudryk has endured challenging months but stressed Chelsea remain committed to helping him rebuild his career.
“We are very happy for him, especially for him,” Alonso said. “We want him to be part of this team. He has everyone’s support.”
The Chelsea manager also confirmed the 25-year-old will travel to Hong Kong with the squad as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign. Mudryk has been cleared to return to football after the resolution of his anti-doping case, allowing him to rejoin the Blues immediately.
Alonso recalled being impressed by Mudryk during his time at Shakhtar Donetsk, highlighting the winger’s pace, dribbling ability and knack for creating chances in one-on-one situations.
He described the Ukrainian as “an exceptional player” capable of making a decisive impact in attack.
According to Chelsea’s official pre-season updates and Alonso’s media briefing after recent loss to Tottenham Hotspur, the manager also cautioned that Mudryk will need time to rediscover his rhythm after a lengthy absence.
Chelsea will continue assessing the winger’s progress during the remainder of their pre-season programme in Asia.
