Arsenal keen on signing two England World Cup stars
Following a long-term back injury to William Saliba at the World Cup, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has targeted England internationals John Stones and Ezri Konsa as potential defensive reinforcements.
Arsenal have suffered a major setback ahead of the new campaign after scans confirmed that defender William Saliba faces an extended rehabilitation period.
The French center-back aggravated a back problem while representing his country at the World Cup, leaving Mikel Arteta short of defensive options despite having utility players like Ben White and Jurrien Timber.
To offset this blow, the Gunners have placed two prominent England internationals on their radar. Former Manchester City defender John Stones is available as a free agent and boasts a strong previous working relationship with Arteta, making him an attractive and cost-effective short-term solution for the North London club.
Alternatively, Aston Villa’s Ezri Konsa has emerged as a younger, highly durable target. However, negotiations could prove challenging due to his long-term contract and a substantial valuation by Villa, forcing Arsenal to weigh immediate financial outlay against squad depth.
