Barcelona president Joan Laporta maintains the club remains determined to land Julian Alvarez, but Atletico Madrid’s refusal to negotiate has left the Argentine striker’s future increasingly uncertain with the transfer deadline approaching.
Barcelona have refused to abandon their pursuit of Julian Alvarez despite Atletico Madrid continuing to resist any attempt to take the Argentina international away from the Spanish capital this summer.
President Joan Laporta has reiterated that the Catalan club’s proposal remains available and that Barcelona are prepared to complete the transfer if Atletico change their position before the window closes.
The dispute has become one of the most closely watched transfer sagas of the summer, with Alvarez reportedly keen on a move to Camp Nou while Atletico insist that the forward remains part of their plans.
Recent reports indicate that Barcelona previously submitted an offer worth around €100 million, but Atletico rejected the proposal and continue to point towards the player’s long-term contract and substantial release clause.
Barcelona’s determination is understood to be driven partly by their desire to strengthen their attacking options, with coach Hansi Flick acknowledging that the club’s hierarchy is aligned on its recruitment plans.
Flick has avoided discussing Alvarez directly but has backed Laporta and sporting director Deco to make the final decision on whether another striker should be added before the deadline.
